PRRD Signed SSS Law That Will Give Monthly 'Unemployment Insurance' Of Php10K
Last February 8, President Rodrigo Duterte signed SSS law that gives unemployment insurance to the members of Social Security System (SSS) who were dismissed from their work.
The law is called Republic Act 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2019 is authored by Senator Richard Gordon.
The law will provide involuntary separation benefits for two months while the members are still trying to find a new job, said the Manila Bulletin.
Sen. Gordon said that a member would receive at least P10,000 only if the member had been paying the “contributions under the maximum salary credit.”
But based on Section 14-B of RA 11199, an involuntarily unemployed member can get the benefit which is equivalent to 50 percent of his average monthly salary credit for a maximum of two months.
Only those who are below 60 could avail the said benefit and they can acquire it one every three years.
Aside from this, Duterte also signed bills that includes extending social security benefits to more overseas Filipino workers.
The Social Security Act of 2018 would give compulsory Social Security Systems (SSS) coverage to land-based and sea-based overseas Filipino workers.
The move is expected to increase the number of OFWs covered by SSS from 500,000 workers to 2.5 million.
